I AM bad!!!

I know that this blog has been dormant for far too long, but I do have intentions of reviving it in the future. Meanwhile, pkease know that I'll be sharing some interesting news here in the near future. Of course, you may have already heard, or seen it, so if so, shhh... The best place to see my recent stitch, mixed media, jewelry, and bead work is either Facebook (Anne Marie Desaulniers), or Instagram (amd_artfuldreamer). Instagram is probably best, because I only share my own work on it. While you're here, please feel free to wander sround and check out my rather obsessive amount of photos. Mostly of bead embroidery, but you will find some other rare gems sprinkled in with the rest. Thanks for visiting! AMD

1 Year In Stitches: 2017

Long time no write!!! Here's a little project that I'm working on this year. At least one stitch a day, for 365 days. You can find start-up and background info on the Brown Paper Bag blog, but if you're interested, will be able to sign up on Facebook. Over 2000 members have already joined, so I think this may be a popular handwork movement this year. Here's another similar Facebook group, run by Susan Sorrell (so far, it's a smaller group, with almost 500 members). I've joined both groups!
I'm working on a heavy cotton, thrift shop dinner napkin, that I've tea dyed. No real plan for this piece, just some enjoyable stitching. Perhaps a little beading, later on....... I'm currently working in a hoop, but do plan on also working off-hoop, when necessary. The beading will get in my way, so will probably include that later in the year. That is, if I can stand it!!!
If you're wondering where I've been, I write a weekly blog post, every Wednesday, over at the BeadFX blog. Here's my latest post! I wish all of you a happy, healthy and creative new year!

It's one of my most popular classes...I supply the face cabochon and the pre-stuffed doll body....all you need to do is stitch with joyful abandon!  My doll family has grown, so you'll have your pick of unique doll forms, to choose from. As it's running on Halloween day, I'll even bring along some treats!!

new adventures in my mixed up media world

I'm pleased to announce, that I've been asked to write, a weekly Mixed Media feature, over on the BeadFX blog, The Beadful Life.  I introduced myself today, and if you'd like to read more about it, you can find my post here.

I'm also happy to say that I'll also be hosting a monthly Mixed Media: Open Studio Evening, at BeadFX.  It's not a class, but more of a supportive play date.  A small fee will be charged, but this is your opportunity to create, explore, share and receive feedback, on your personal projects. Imagine, two solid hours of uninterrupted, creative, studio time!  Bring your own projects and supplies, or just hang around and soak up the knowledge........arrangements can be made to share my supplies, but advance notice is required.  There are only eight spaces available, so it's always a good idea to call ahead, to reserve your place.  These sessions are open to all of my students, and also anyone who has a working knowledge of the supplies, materials and techniques. Please feel free to draw, paint, wrap, roll, resin, stamp, bead, and more............

I'll see you there!

the doll with no name

I finished this doll a few months ago, but am lacking inspiration for a name. All I can think of is "Sea Hag", and I'm not sure the doll will like me to call her that!!! LOL! Anyway, my hag has been intuitively bead embroidered on a hand stuffed, wool felt form, designed by moi! I received a small ribbon freebie, from one of my online suppliers, so ruched it to give the doll a little more texture. I rather like the effect! Now do I need to call her a beaded art mixed media hag? Her rather plain face cabochon, was made out of paper clay, painted with acrylics, and sealed. I've since moved on to Apoxie Sculpt and Polymer Clay for the face cabochons, but this one seemed to fit best. Tell me what you think!
Of course, she needed her own fish bowl!!

art among the ruins - road trip

I had a fabulous day out yesterday, with a two of my friends. We drove to the bustling little town of Newburgh, ON, a couple of hours east of Toronto. I expect this town is normally, more sleepy than "bustling", but it was the site of a lovely, and surprisingly large, art show (60 artists), in the ruins of a 19th century mill, on the banks of the Napanee river. There's actually a house on the property, but the homeowners had the foresite to leave some of the ruins in their natural state, and simply landscape around them. The sun was out, the temperature was perfect, the mosquitos weren't biting, and one of my favourite fibre artists was exhibiting in the show (Sylvia Naylor). What more could you ask? I'll leave you with some images from the day.
Don't you wish you were here?
