fat book swap - 2011

The wonderful results of a Fat Book swap that I participated in on the Mixed Media Art Friends Yahoo Group. This group is run by the generous and talented Belinda Spiwak. We were asked to make 37 pages of one technique on either cardstock or heavy weight watercolour paper. Some of the participants dropped out, so I received four of my own pages back. I guess that life interfered!!

On the back of each page are the instructions for the technique. What a wonderful resource for the future!! Belinda has had these huge swaps before, but the timing was never right for me to join. Of course, I regretted it every single time. The swaps on this group are infrequent, but she's hinted that the next one might be either a charm or ATC swap. I'm hoping for a charm one, because that's another I missed in the past. Boo hoo to me......because they were incredible!!!

Belinda's is the first one on the top on the left hand side.

Mine is the green one, second left on the bottom.

Three of my pages are in this shot. The mottled one in the middle of the top row and the two on the bottom.

Instructions for my technique are shown in my original post on the subject.

These pages will eventually be made into a reference book or I might even make a storage box. But for now I'll just fondle them and dream! As my bookbinding experience and time is limited, the final construction will need to wait.

Let the experiments begin!!!!! Now, does anyone know where to buy sequin waste?

The book pages look great.... but don't put them away in a cleaning craze!!! Can't help you with the sequin waste either....

I know what you mean! But don't worry, I'm not sure when I'll have time to clean up the studio!! Besides, I have a separate drawer unit for swap and trade items. Incomplete or not!

lots of good techniques there, i like the sequin waste too but can't help with sourcing it. I could send you some chicken wire LOL, but maybe not quite the same.

Kaite, thanks for the comment!! I think that I could probably source my own chicken wire....I'd just need to visit a farm...

Surely a walk along Queen Street would produce some sequin waste!

Sequin waste? How much do you need? What colour? I have some silver and also some purple/pinky colour. You know where to reach me!

I don't even know what "sequin waste" is. lol

So...the pages are gorgeous but what is the purpose? (Asked with complete seriousness and curiousity!)

Penny...oh, I know a walk down Queen street would probably produce some, but I rarely go downtown. At least not while the stores are open. Something to think about though.

MA - thanks for the offer. I'll contact you via email.

Sara, it's the leftovers from when they punch out sequins. Small, open, circular shapes. Great for spray painting circles on top of other techniques.

As for the purpose, it's to learn stuff, of course!!! Now I can take these techniques and use them on altered book, sketchbook or mixed media projects They can be used for paper based artist postcards, ATC's, 4" X 4"'s and all sorts of other shapes. Some could be adapted to fabric with a grain of salt, holding your tongue just the right way and a little experimentation. It's all for fun!!!!!

Fun! and what a cool thing to have the technique "recipe" on the back of each page. actually 4 out of 37 isn't that bad a ratio for returns of your own work I'd think.... love your flower pics as usual! I have sequin waste somewhere too if you need other colors....
